I am working with an HP Pavilion Slimline s4721c. I performed a fresh install of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 but there are some issues. I can't seem to get 4 drivers installed.the HD audio, Unknown Device, Video Controller, and Video Controller (VGA Supported). For the video drivers, I tried using the one from the HP website but that resulted in a black screen.
I tried going to Nvidia.com however to run their diagnostic, but Java wasn't installed and I can't seem to install it. Any thoughts on getting these final drivers installed? HP is notorious about using different hardware across the life of a single model.
For the audio drivers, you may have a different sound chip than the one they mention in the driver download page. You'll probably have to take a look at the motherboard with a magnifying glass and flashlight to see what chip they used, then download the driver from the manufacturer. (I had a HP laptop that had three different wireless drivers listed in the driver section, a Broadcom with bluetooth, a Broadcom without bluetooth, and an Atheros, and what was installed was a Realtek.) The video controller is going to be harder, though. For that, you may or may not be able to use the manufacturer's driver, depending on what they put in it and how they implemented it. I was unable to find any system with that model in any of HP documentation, and I have a special IT support tech access account that should be able to see everything. I see all sorts of Pavilion Slimline models, but all of them start with 's5' with no 's4' models at all.
Are you certain that's the right model number? I found a s7421c, if that is the model you mean. If that is the case, then the graphics is the Intel integrated graphics for the 915.945 chipset. You can get the latest version of those drivers from Intel's site. Don't use the ones from HP as they are about 2 years older than the ones from Intel. If the audio is the Realtek mentioned on HP's support site, get those from Realtek's site. As with the graphics driver, the ones on HP's site are very old.
