The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto
½ I wanted to like this more than I did, but it's another example of the fact that I'm growing up. It seems I have my limits to how much depravity I can withstand in a certain time period, and with El Superbeasto that time limit was about 25 minutes. While I really liked the animation, the homages, and the cameos, the non-stop (and I do mean non stop) vulgarity/violence/nudity/sex/etc. Just wore down my interest in the film in about a half an hour, causing me to have to view it over the course of three nights. There is much to enjoy here, including the gleefully self aware levels of depravity, and I imagine many will have a better time with it than I had.
Nothing diminishes the effectiveness of a film like hype. Little Bean Sterilizer Manual. Considering the fact that Rob Zombie has been talking about The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto since before The Devil's Rejects was released, there was some tremendous hype behind this little side project.
Suffice it to say, there are going to be some people that are disappointed. Let me start by saying, there is no gray area with this film. You're either going to love it, or you're going to loathe it. I happen to fall in to the former category. Something about Superbeasto just worked for me. One of the major complaints I've heard is that the film seems to just sporadically break into song.
